Hot Turns 2

1 Man, 1 Idea , 14 DJ’s,  A Spectacular Playlist, 170 000 Listeners, 2 Incredible Years… This is  Hot 91.9FM

What do you do when your back is against the ropes and the world tells you that you’re playing a losing game?

In 2012, Lloyd Madurai, Managing Director at Hot 91.9fm, found himself in this exact position when he had the genius idea of starting a radio station that had a legendary line-up of DJ’s. With minimal funds and intense adversity, but armed with a wealth of experience and a committed team; he did it! He created a station that not only has incredible on-air personalities but a station that has proved to positively impact the community it broadcasts to.

17 November 2016 marks 2 years since the wünderkind that is Hot 91.9fm, first launched to the significant melody : “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now” by Mc Fadden & White Head.

To celebrate the stations 2nd birthday, the team has listed a few memorable occasions that epitomise the fabric of Hot91.9fm.

  1. The Mandela Day House Handover

Joburg’s Hottest Breakfast show’s initiative for Mandela Day 2015 extended from its regular charity activation, the ONE Wingz of Change in partnership with ER24. Together with the Hot 91.9FM community, ONE Wingz of Change and ER24 committed to building permanent housing for Julia Naila – a single mom whose 14-year-old son Sihle is very ill and undergoes regular dialysis. The family had been living in a shack which was not conducive to Sihle’s health. Thanks to the community’s financial and service donations, a beautiful home was constructed within a year.

Gauteng ANC Chairperson, Paul Mashatile, was there to lend a helping hand.

2. The Gift of Independence Wine & Dine Party

On September 10, 2016 Hot 91.9fm held a magnificent event to help raise funds for SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind. The sold out event had 400 Hotties in attendance. They dressed up and supported an amazing cause. Cat Simoni, Tokyo Groove and Paul Almeida took care of the entertainment for the evening and our very own Simon Parkinson was our MC for the night. The night ended successfully with over R250 000 raised.

3. Old Skool Cruise

The very first Hot91.9fm Cruise took thousands of listeners to the Portuguese Islands.  For 3  fun filled days, the MSC Sinfonia was home away from home. Everyone on board was entertained by the incomparable “Brent Harris & The Band”, as well as most of the Hot91.9fm crew. The trip was so thrilling that the radio station will be sailing off again in February 2017.
