The Garden Route’s enchanting surroundings; luscious vegetation and storybook lagoons, may seem to be the only aspect of the stretch of land worthy of appreciation. However the area boasts some world class wine farms. This holiday season, you must have a stop at one such farm; Newstead in The Crags, just outside Plettenberg Bay.
Their tasting room is welcoming, authentic and intimate and lunches are guided by the season, inspired by the moment, and made from scratch using ingredients that are locally-sourced (often as local as their own vegetable, herb and flower garden). Whether it’s for wines or a meal, they like to keep it real.
Newstead pays meticulous attention to detail in their vineyards of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. They produce some of the best, most unblemished grapes any farmer is ever likely to see, and they’re put to good use by Newstead’s winemaker.
From the first vintage in 2012, Newstead wines and bubblies received both acclaim and awards, and they’re enjoyed as much in Europe as they are locally in Plettenberg Bay.
