Gogo Zodwa Goes To The Beach
Well into her 80’s, life long dream became a reality for this extraordinary woman, Hot91.9fm made it happen.
She’s a tiny lady with twinkly eyes and a mischievous grin – and well into her 80s, she’s an avid boxer. She’s always involved in community upliftment programs like gardening, knitting and she’s an inspiration to those around her. She’s even won the Community Dedicated Senior Citizen award.
But in this rich, meaningful life of service to others, having worked in an old age home for just over 23 years, Gogo Zodwa had never seen the ocean. Speaking to Claude of Facebook outreach project I Have A Name, Gogo Zodwa spoke of a life long dream to see the ocean.
During a live interview on Hot91.9FM’s Joburg’s Hottest breakfast, Gogo Zodwa was given a bed from the Sealy Mattress Gallery. She also received a brand new TV.
Her biggest dream was to visit a coastal area as she has spent her entire life inland, “I’d love to go to Durban to see the beach and the ocean. Since I was a baby I have never been to the ocean, I have only heard about it. I would love to visit the beach.”
The Hot team scrambled together on the spot to ensure that Gogo Zodwa gets to live her greatest desire. Hot91.9FM pledged to send her on an all-expenses paid trip to Durban. Avis Chauffer also got on board to make sure that this dynamic granny would explore the coastal city luxuriously and safely. McDonalds elevated the surprise package by gifting Gogo with R5000 spending money.
And that’s where we at Hot91.9FM saw an opportunity to give back to Gogo what she so graciously and selflessly has given for so long. We flew Gogo and her family out to Durban, with accommodation and transfers were taken care of courtesy of Avis. After arriving on a perfectly warm and sunny day at the coast, Gogo and her family were chauffeur driven to the beach for Gogo Zodwa’s dream to come true.
We at Hot91.91FM are so grateful to Gogo and her family for the beautiful pictures they shared of their journey, especially the one of Gogo Zodwa waist deep in the water!
A big thank you to I Have A Name on Facebook for the incredible work they do and affording us at Hot91.9FM the opportunity to make a difference for such a phenomenal woman.
