Beyonce Calls For #FreedomForGirls With Powerful Video

Beyonce and a young army of talented, feisty and commanding girls have come together to direct the world’s attention to the importance of fighting for freedom for girls.  11 October 2017 is the 5th anniversary of International Day of the Girl. This year the UN’s Global Goals initiative partnered up with the mega star by using her 2016 song “Freedom” for a video which reveals disheartening statistics about the daily realities millions of girls around the world face.

“Every five minutes a girl dies as a result of violence.”

“One in four girls gets married as a child.”

“71% of human trafficking victims are female.”

“63 million girls have undergone female genital mutilation.”

“130 million girls are out of school.”

“Girls are twice as likely to become infected with HIV.”

International Day of the Girl was founded by UNESCO in order “to address the needs and challenges girls’ face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.”
