Almost a year ago to the day we handed over the keys of the #MadibaDayHouse to Julia and Sihle, recipients of Hot919‘s Award Winning Community Project: A House in 67 Minutes in Honour of Madiba.
Here is a short recap: “Published on Jul 19, 2016 –
A year in the making. Finally, Julia and Sihle can move into their brand new house built just for them.
Joburg’s Hottest Breakfast show‘s initiative for #MandelaDay 2015 extended from its regular charity activation, Wingz of Change in partnership with ER24. On Thursday, 6 August the Wingz of Change in partnership with ER24 together with the HOT 91.9FM community built a house in 67 minutes for someone without permanent housing and changed her life forever.
Show hosts Darren Scott and Jeremy Mansfield opened their phone lines for 67 minutes at 7 am on Thursday, 6 August during which they managed to get all the building materials, expert skills and related services needed to build a house pledged and donated by companies, industry stakeholders and members of the community.
Members of the public were urged to take part in this Mandela Day project that made a change beyond 67 minutes and made every day a #MandelaDay. Donations and services were pledged by SMSing into the radio show on Thursday morning, 6 August 2015, during the 67 minutes.
Nominated by Tanya Landsberg, Julia Naila is a single mom whose 14-year-old son Sihle is very ill and undergoes regular dialysis in their current home, a shack. Julia and Sihle are the very worthy recipients of this house, built by the community in the spirit of Madiba.
On the morning of the 18th of July 2016 – Joburg’s Hottest Breakfast Show broadcast live from Julia and Sihle’s new house in Witpoortjie.”
